I don't know how I didn't think of this be for, but the Lemmy bean posting could be a psyop that reddit is trying to get people to return to them after switching to Lemmy

Why would shitposting on Lemmy, get people to switch back to Reddit, a site famous for shitposting?

Beanposting seems to be a pretty organic meme rising out of the fact that Lemmy is pretty new and people don’t really mind shitposts yet because there is such good content on Lemmy since the community hasn’t grown too large yet

Seems more like Lemmy users are building up a mythology. "I was there in the early days. Remember poop and beans?"

Lemmy needs a Streetlamp Le Moose story right about now to really help us settled in and feel at home. If you have not heard the legendary tale, it's worth a read.

You've been in the shower too long, friend.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you stay in long enough, your brain gets pruney too.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, you'd end up with a wrinkly brain. Gross!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Smooth brains for the win!

[–] [email protected] 31 points 1 year ago (1 children)

maybe we just like beans bro

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

The children yearn for the beans

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Doubt it. It's just dumb low effort posting over here trying to force inside jokes on Lemmy. I blocked all of that sort of stuff back in the day on Reddit, and I blocked it here too.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Imagine thinking shutposts are repulsive. They are literally only in one community, block it if you don't like it. Jesus Christ!

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Damn bean counters

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 year ago

In what way would these bean memes make people go back to Reddit? "Go back to reddit. They don't have beans?" There are beans there too.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

The bean shit made me feel like this place had become more comfortable as it just reminded me of shit we did on Reddit. It was funny.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago

I'm not really into beans and shitposting, but I don't mind my feed flooded (yet) because it's always good to see people being active and having fun.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

I just blocked the sub. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Reddit had Narwhals and bacon, lemmy has Poop and Beans

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Truly a site of the people

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

The poop beans at noon.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

>make people like to stay on lemmy due to the maymays

>Somehow this makes them gb2 rebbit

>Profit??

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Naw, I think people had fun. It might be annoying but it's a good thing. Meta humor means people are invested.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The greedy little pig and his crownies may be dumb, but I think they would have better ways to get people to return to reddit if they wanted. Rotting a webpage using shitposts from an already rotten webpage with shitposts is not smart.

I'll take your beans if you don't want them.

I hate the "rule" shit people are throwing in post titles more than the beans

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Then block them.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I blocked all the 'rule' communities. 197s or whatever. Fastest way is do a search and just block all the active looking ones

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Thanks! Wish there was an easier way to do it but that'll do for now

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

I was gonna post that this place becoming Reddit in the worst way, bean posting being in my mind. Hadn't considered this.

Still, an easy way to find out if this conspiracy is true is by checking who upvoted those posts.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Beans are Lemmy's narwhal bacon midnight.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Why would you go back to reddit? There's no beans there.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

So that's what people have bean doing

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I see a bunch of people talking about the beans, but I actually have yet to see a bean post. Where are people seeing all of these posts coming from?

I have a feeling that you may have invited it yourselves by joining a bunch of meme and shitposting communities. You shouldn't really be surprised if you end up seeing a bunch of memes and shitposts.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

The bean posts have died down after around 36 hours. I've seen a few today compared to them being everywhere 24 hours ago here lol

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I like beans so it's not working on me

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I don’t hate the beans

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

I think it's funny

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Bean posting is the most reddit thing I have seen on lemmy in the month I've been watchingb
