Same, but without the finesse and the home ownership and such

Yeah it was a trip for me as well to adapt to the new ways. For example it took me a long long time to adjust to allowing the computer to manage the multitasking for me. I would habitually always close out programs I wasn’t using, because I felt deeply from my decades of experience that running tons of things at once would cause many issues.

I was very uncomfortable letting all these “active” programs pile up, but it really turned out to be all good. The computers are designed to be used this way. And really, I’m better off for it, not having to go in and micromanage everything constantly.

What I’m trying to say is that learning is not something that is ever finished, you know? There came a day when we stopped defragmenting our hard drives, and now the day has arrived where the computer utilizes all the ram all the time

That’s normal for these computers. Idea being it doesn’t really benefit you to have a ton of empty ram sitting around waiting to be used. So the OS makes no effort to clear it out until the space is needed.

If you believe their marketing it’s actually doing the opposite, and preemptively loading stuff into ram in order to make your common tasks feel as snappy as possible. But yeah either way you’ll notice the memory is always “full”, but you never seem run out

Ha, I kept my textbooks too. Every once in a while something pops into my head and I want to crack one open

There’s this dude at the gym who watches netflix on his phone between sets, taking 10+ minute breaks while people wait in line to use the machine.

I normally try to be charitable about these things. I have no idea if he has some type of fatigue issue or something along those lines justifying the long breaks, right?

But I need to actively push my thoughts in this direction, in some probably misguided attempt to cultivate kindness within my own life. Truth is there’s just something infuriating about watching a movie while sitting in the building’s only leg extension

Absolute banger of a game. Loved it when it first launched, excited to jump back in with the new content. Just in time for Halloween, too

Yeah, I love it and actually prefer it to my old reddit experience for general browsing.

What isn’t quite there yet is the ability to like, sit down all day and scroll and post in a community dedicated to my current hyperfixation of the week. Be it guitar maintenance, some indie game, or whatever.

But reddit also didn’t have that when I started using it. Excited to hang here and watch the garden grow

I use both at the same desk. I even use the same (windows layout) keyboard on both, and somehow I’m even able to reflexively remember to switch which hotkeys I use, such as win+c and win+v instead of ctrl+c and ctrl+v for copy/paste. I did eventually have to switch the default scroll direction for my mouse wheel though, those being different was just too much lol

Oh now I see what you’re saying, thanks. Yeah I thought maybe there was something about showering I’d been overlooking all these years lol

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I’ve been looking into some smart lights!

But I’m a bit confused, what do you use them for in the shower?

I started seeing cakes appear on people’s usernames, and I realized that it’s been a full year now since the great debacle through which many of us discovered lemmy.

Seeing them all start to pop up at once has made me a bit nostalgic. Memmy was such an exciting and important project during that time, I believe for many people it is the reason they stuck with lemmy in the long term.

So, cheers to the devs, and to anyone who still checks on this community from time to time when memmy crosses their mind.

So, I noticed that a couple of my image uploads made using Voyager now just show a “?” graphic. Looking around this community, I’m seeing a lot of other people’s posts are like that too.

In other apps and via browser, the images are also missing. Is anyone else experiencing this/do we know what’s happening?

I noticed while scrolling All that whenever these posts are displayed, the app lags out significantly, but then returns to normal a few seconds after they’re off screen.

I suspect it’s actually just the top one because it’s a gif. Running latest test test flight version

Behavior started a few updates ago for me. If I go to answer a text or check any other app, when I come back to Memmy the app won’t let me click on posts for 10-20 seconds

Lemmy.world was experiencing authentication issues yesterday, making it difficult to comment and vote.

These issues were resolved some hours ago when lemmy.world updated to 18.02, but you may still be experiencing issues with your account on third party apps such as memmy.

If so, everything will start working normally if you remove your account from the app and add it again! Possibly just reinstalling will also achieve the same thing, but I haven’t tested that personally.

It feels weird having it there in big bold letters all the time. I sometimes want to show someone a post or talk about lemmy in general, but I’m apprehensive about them learning my account name.

In Apollo, there was this really interesting feature that let you disable the gestures for voting/replying/etc. If you did so, then you could use the entire screen to navigate between posts instead of needing to swipe all the way from the side.

I struggle with a repetitive stress injury and this feature helped me a lot! I managed to grab a screenshot of the exact setting before Apollo shut down. It would be awesome if something similar could be implemented in Memmy

I’ve been sleeping on the same one for a few years but it’s become really lumpy. I don’t mind spending a little money, but are the modern “high tech” pillows really worth it?

I noticed I can save posts from the app but don’t see where to view the posts I’ve saved
