When she said that the Tory party donor that made those comments about Diane Abbott should be excused.

She defied the party line at the time and called out the racist language used. If I remember right, her complaint was with the media talking about it for weeks, not dismissing the comments.

It drives me mad how the UK media obsesses over US Presidential elections because they're still pretending the "special relationship" exists, yet they pay hardly any attention to European elections that actually have more impact on the UK.

They'll literally cut away from UK news to bring a campaign speech from Trump or Harris. Why? We don't get a vote in it, so we don't need to hear it.

And for the record, Badenoch is a white supremacist.

Let's look up the definition of white supremacy, shall we?

the belief that white people constitute a superior race and should therefore dominate society, typically to the exclusion or detriment of other racial and ethnic groups.

Right. Can you point me to where Badenoch has espoused views that think people of a different race, like herself, should be treated as lesser people?

The kind of language she comes out with herself or endorses is what you'd expect to hear from someone like Nick Griffin. I don't know she gets away with it so often.

I find it interesting that both Sunak and now Badenoch have said similar things about the colour of their skin and the fact they have been leaders of their party not being a big deal. For them they are are British and that's how they identify. Whilst in both cases Labour has congratulated them as being the first Hindu to be PM and now the first Black person to be leader of a party. Don't get me wrong these are important milestones, but I find it fascinating that the people who broke these barriers don't consider it a core identity point and the party that hasn't yet does.

I think the reason is that we're a multicultural society and one of the least racist countries in the world, and the fact that it's not really a big deal that a person of colour is leading a major political party (and the previous one who was also PM) is a good thing. So yes, it is a historic moment (the first of anything happening automatically is) but it's a good thing that we live in a country where it's not remarkable that it has happened.

I thought we would eventually see this race-baiter come out, but I didn't expect it to be even before the announcement of Badenoch's election was made.

We tend to take the Mr. Pink approach to tipping over here.

The vast majority of voters for both main parties are not racist.

I mean, Conservative members (who are generally more right-wing than the electorate) have literally just voted for a black woman as leader over a guy throwing all the red meat he possibly could at them.

The whole of those 2% are on Lemmy.

How do I know? Because they really like to tell you about it.

Johnson was in one of the main two parties and a popular figure (for some reason).

Farage is neither of these.

I don't think it's controversial to think that people should be an adult before making a life-changing decision such as gender transition, is it?

How does this amount to the ridiculous hyperbole of "killing trans kids"?

There's a lot of words there, but not many of them make sense.

The chance of this happening is remarkably close to zero.

It's the season of the poppy fascists.

As the title says. PS5 is a pain in the arse for not putting patch notes on the console and I hate having to scour the internet to try and find what's new in an update. Whether it be "join our Discord" or Facebook pages or hoping someone posts it in a subreddit.

So are there any sites or apps that do this well?

I've got a job interview on Tuesday and I haven't had one for a while due to a period of unemployment because of family health issues.

One part of interviews I've always struggled with is when they first ask you to tell them about yourself. I struggle to talk about myself anyway and never know what they'd like me to actually say, whether it's about me as a person or about my work history.

So any tips or tricks would be welcome.

I have an Emma Original Pillow that I've had for three years and the support is basically non-existent now, so I wake up in the night and end up with neck and shoulder pain.

I've tried a Panda Hybrid pillow and a Simba Hybrid firm pillow but neither were any good to me. The Panda was too low for sleeping on my back and the Simba didn't have the support I needed. If I was purely a side sleeper it would be probably be okay, but of course I have to be awkward.

I generally prefer memory foam pillows, but it's been so long since I've had a good night's sleep, I'm willing to try anything.

I'm a lover of physical books but I'm looking to get an e-reader as well, for those books that are hard to find physical copies of, or are just very expensive.

I've ruled out Onyx, because I try to avoid Chinese tech as it's usually poorly made. But I'm not sure whether Kindle or Kobo is best. Is being tied to Amazon's ecosystem too restricting? Are the Kobo e-readers compatible with everything you need? Which ones have the best screens, ideally how a physical book would look?

So many questions, but hopefully some of you can help. 😁

I've suffered with anxiety since I was a kid, and things like CBT don't seem to work for me at all. I know pills from the doctor are available, but I only want to go down that route as a last resort.

So does anyone have any experience with CBD products for treating anxiety? The reviews online seem mixed on whether they actually work.

Looking to attend a Comic Con for the first time next month and I want to meet Nolan North for either a photo or an autograph.

I know neither of them will give you much time with the guest, but which do you think is the best value for money?

Loved this game and can't wait for this DLC to play more of it.

Almost like it was a non-starter. Who could have possibly foreseen that?
