Unfortunately it'll only be for 6 months due to the Antarctic polar night, but still, the old world is dying

Random twitter thread that popped up for me. That first link, to the reddit post about some random dude in Oregon who thinks he has bird flu - giving me real late 2019 flashbacks. I remember back then when we all still thought it was contained in China (or maybe it had been confirmed in Washington state at that point - can't remember) some reddit post from a guy in NYC who was absolutely sure he had Covid but there were no tests available and his doctor was telling him to just stay home and not leave the house. Don't remember exactly when that was but I feel like late 2019...a harbinger of things to come.

I've been enjoying reading Krupskaya's works on education and how to study (e.g. How Lenin Studied Marx). I'm wondering if there's anything similar in the Marxist canon (or just worth reading for Marxists in general) on the subject of study and self-education. I'll try to compile the Krupskaya I've been reading in an edit.

edit:

The Organization of Self Education

General Rules for Independent Study

How Lenin Studied Marx

Unfortunately that's all I could find online

The only other one I'm aware of was the fuck skiing post. Which yeah I agree was a little weirder, but for reasons that goes beyond the basic sentiment of "fuck white people." Complaining about white people on this site has been common since day 1 and I don't think it should be considered controversial to complain about white people, even coming from other white people. White people should of course recognize their own complicity in the racial hierarchy, I don't believe that precludes them from complaining about white people, especially when it's a valid criticism. The complaint about how white people react to homeless people is valid, the complaint about skiing maybe not so much - but that's a difference that has nothing to do with the basic sentiment of fuck white people.

the post that I assume this is referring to had an edgy title, but really it was just complaining about white people on reddit calling for the extermination of homeless people, as is so common on reddit-logo. Seems fine to say fuck white people in response to that.

idk, where else can we say that? Like if we say that anywhere else we're just gonna be shouted at by a bunch of liberals and accused of reverse racism. The charge that it's trying to absolve oneself of their own complicity in the racial hierarchy is a valid one, but it also is a genuine sentiment among white people especially on the left, and even among those apolitical people who have yet to realize that what they mean when they complain about "the man" or "society" is white bourgeois society and values. It's a wholly emotional statement, and obviously "fuck white people" isn't a basis for organizing or political action, but this is a shitposting site at heart and I think it's fine if white people want to vent about their fellow hwhytes every now and again.

(I say this as a white person)

In the popular understanding of Marxism there is a mode of production that comes before capitalism which is the feudal mode of production. Recently though I've been seeing (and it seems it's been a debate for awhile) things about how feudalism doesn't actually exist, which seems to come from two authors: Susan Reynolds and another woman who I can't remember. Of course then it will often be said "well feudalism in its Marxist sense exists, this is referring to the non-marxist use of 'feudalism.'" The main thesis seems to be (as far as I can understand) that there was no standard of "feudalism" and what is referred to as "feudalism" differs greatly across time and geography.

I'm wondering if someone who knows more about this can help me square this Marxist theory (which I also understand I don't have a great handle on either). But does this call certain aspects of Marxism into question - namely this idea of feudalism synthesizing into capitalism? Does the Marxist historiography of the Middle Ages through the Early Modern period need to be reworked? Although it seems the "feudalism does not exist" theory specifically excludes Marxism - so what is the difference then between the Marxist and non-Marxist understanding of feudalism? And further, if feudalism doesn't exist, what is the feudal mode of production? Hoping there's someone here who can help provide insight into any of these questions. Thanks.
