Having an editor with spell checking makes me deeply sad whenever I'm viewing code.

I really wish rider would respect when I turn it off. It just keeps re-enabling itself.

I have a spelling checker,
It came with my PC.

Its vary polished in it's weigh.
My checker tolled me sew.
A checker is a bless sing,
It freeze yew lodes of thyme.
It helps me right awl stiles two reed,
And aides me when eye rime.
Each frays come posed up on my screen
Eye trussed too bee a joule.
The checker pours o'er every word

It feels a bit like reading late middle English, everything is a little off but I can still mostly make sense of it.

I pasted this into a Word document and my laptop burst into flames.

Ah, I see you also have ~~that's~~ Gboard

(I literally swiped "~~ghosts~~ Gboard" twice to get the ~~advice~~ above. Oh look, it happened again)

Ya it's in the name. Google is synonymous with tracking and lack of privacy. Just another bit we give up to live in the most advanced and free country in the civilized world, governed by ~~it's~~ its citizens and not a conglomerate of corporate overlords selling our minds by inches.

Yup.

I don't use Google (aside from AOSP).

Truly the person of all time

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

My Gboard started doing that when I type normally!

I gave up using swipe typing because it loves to pick words I never say, have never said, and will never say (especially not in the context of the rest of the sentence, that Gboard knows about and will offer (incorrect) corrections on)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

A couple of times I've had it autocorrect to complete gibberish. Go home, GBoard, you're drunk.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

The autocorrect not being able to accommodate my use of bad words was my reason to turn it off. It’s so fucking annoying, a corporation will not tell me which words I can and cannot use.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What keyboard do you use that doesn't allow swear words the fuck

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What do you think?

It’s the stock ios keyboard.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I have both a pixel 8 pro and iphone 16 pro both let me swear with autocorrect I even misspelled fuck when I was typing my last comment and it corrected it on ios

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

same on Gboard

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

I think the profanity filter used to be non-optional on iOS's autocorrect.

I have a new phone since a week or two. I really miss my previous autocorrect. It was perfectly honed to my liking. Now it's just generic bullshit that completely misses the point of my artistic freedom. However, I'm full on re-educating that mf right now. It is on the recieving end of my wrath. Christian gay conversion camp therapists could learn a thing or two from my resolve.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

Try teaching it German compounds. I'm a big fan of artisanal compounds, but getting spell check or the swipe-o-matic to accept them is an unwinnable battle.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago

Happening is a word my autocorrupt gets right 6% of the time.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

POV: Auto correct turned itself off

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

This was done really we’ll.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

Hi I'm auto-"corrector". There, ftfy. :-P

But... it didn't need "fixing"? Oh...

programmerhumor lemmy continuing the fine r/programmerhumor tradition of memes that are only tangentially related to technology and have dick all to do with programming posted by non programmers who want to hang out with the hackermen

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

I say we let them hang with us. They're a little confused, but they're adorable enough.

Also, talesfromtechsupport effectively became talesfromtech because just tech support is to small of a niche to sustain a sub with content. Likewise, if we banned all the not-strictly-programming humour, I don't know the community will thrive still. It might drive out both content and viewers, and while it's arguably correct, I don't think it's wise.

I'd rather have it be something vaguely resembling the type of humour programmers tend to have than a little walled-off box with a big sign "NERDS ONLY"

The system in android has turned insidiously covert. I make more than my share of mistakes but Andy likes to toss in some randos

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Their out too git us!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Gen AI is like super-autocorrector.

I agree, autocracy sucks!
