Hey look.. it's Mystery Island and exactly how close I get to be to Mystery Island

[–] PeelerSheila 5 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

How are you feeling today?

Edit: just read your last comment 🤦🏻‍♀️ I've really got to change how I sort comments. Hang in there mate!

The fever is gone for now and I'm mostly just feeling like I have a bit of a head cold, so relatively I'm feeling pretty good! Compared to yesterday and last night.

Room service didn't have any breakfast items listed on the menu but when I called them they said they do breakfast which was a nice surprise. They sent me this:

[–] Duenan 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

That’s a nice spread. Was it yummy?

[–] bull 5 points 10 months ago

It was pretty good! The only issue was they gave me a fork and a spoon but no knife but I made do

I just walked home from the dentist and tried to smile thanks at a driver who stopped for me to cross the road. Unfortunately I currently can't move my face, so instead just gave her a blank stare.

Real Estate agency has mass texted their entire database an aggressive accusation of not paying rent over the holidays. Rude, unprofessional, inaccurate, and utterly uncalled for. One can only assume the managing partner concerned is both a raging narcissist and very, very drunk.

Accidentally slip it on reddit and watch the miracle of modern journalism

Don't talk back, peasant!!

[–] bull 10 points 10 months ago (4 children)

lol woke up again but this time just dripping with sweat. Changed t-shirts and side of the bed again so it's dry. What a rollercoaster. Feeling a lot better though besides the sniffles but according to the internet I'm in for at least a couple of days of this fever so who knows how I'll wake up next.

Wheeeeeee! 🎢

[–] RustyRaven 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

On a positive note, you are doing all this sweating on someone else's linen. My matress and topper are both stained from after the fever from the vaccinations and I had to wash all the sheets and things myself. So it might not be how you envisaged spending your holiday, but there is a silver lining.

[–] bull 6 points 10 months ago

This does actually help my mood about it, thanks!

[–] Pilk 5 points 10 months ago

Sounds like a textbook case. Savour your ability to taste and smell food while you still can!

[–] imoldgreeeg 4 points 10 months ago

If you can manage to secure some hydralite it's worth it (or even jelly beans and salted chips). I lived on the stuff when I had that fever and it was a saviour. (the sweats are a sign the fever is breaking tho - hang in there. It gets better in a day or two)

Drank myself into a stupor last night and paying the price today. I feel like I got it out of my system. Did a heap of applications on Seek and LinkedIn, but I'm guessing most people aren't back in office for another week or so. And so it goes.

I don't like this EL nemo weather.

[–] just_kitten 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Raining here now too and I'm just back to hiding in bed rather than attempting to be productive.

[–] MeanElevator 6 points 10 months ago

I've logged on to work, however all my tasks were done before the holidays. Last week and this week is just me banking time to take leave when the weather gets better.

I've been binge watching Schitt's Creek off a recommendation and at first I didn't think it was for me but I've grown quite fond of it. David is probably my favourite character, he just wears it all on the outside.

just scored 3 marble and two lovely terra cotta planters off the kerb 👍

[–] bananafungus 7 points 10 months ago

Since I didn't finish my drunken rewatch of all the Harry Potter films I'm finishing them sober before the housemate returns, and I have to say I will always be of the opinion that half the characters were far more interesting than Harry ever was.

[–] Duenan 7 points 10 months ago

Have eaten way too much pasta.

Almost feel like falling into a food coma right now.

After doomscrolling on the couch for nearly 5 hours I peeled myself away while I had a carshare still available to go stock up on some plant goodies.

  1. It was like motherfucking Queensland outside, gross
  2. Does anyone do 80 in the reduced speed section of the M3? I was very confused.
  3. Can't fucking recognise Bulleen Road after a year, holy shit. The roads are HUGE. The big old tree in front of the servo didn't avoid the chop, huh. I need to update myself on this whole project.
  4. It's criminal how easily I can hand over my money to BAAG
  5. Visited new Preston Bunnings as well and kinda like the new vibe compared to the dustiness of the old one; very happy about the plant pot dropoff, have excitedly cleared my balcony of accumulated pots

Tomorrow I want to doomscroll a lot less and get some major gardening going after months of mostly bare minimum. A lot of repotting, massive soil refreshment, resuscitating dried out potting mix, desperately need to move the manzano somewhere more sheltered, and I'm gonna try these basil seedlings in the hot big planter box and hope I repeat my success from 2 years ago and get half a litre of pesto out of them.

[–] underwatermagpies 5 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

I liked Old Preston Bunnings better. I find it annoying to have to navigate the multi storey carpark and escalators when I used to be able to just pop in.

And yes, BAAG is super dangerous! Even to black-thumbed people like me.

I really should do something today since I've done nothing but lounge about almost the entire time I've had the house to myself, but this weather is really not inspiring me. I will add in my own defence that my fucked leg isn't helping, since I can't drive or walk for long, which are the two things most of outdoor hobbies need me to be able to do.

[–] underwatermagpies 4 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I could have written this. Except it's my ankle stopping me from walking much, and I can drive, but trauma from a major crash is making that somewhat stressful and I'd just as soon not unless I need to. And the cricket's on.

I'm feeling lazy but telling myself that rest is a valid way to spend my annual leave. Although I should probably at least leave the house today.

Feeling and movement is slowly returning to my face, but my chin is still numb. It is also itching horribly and I want to scratch it, but I can't because it just feels like a lump of meat stuck to my face. ☹️

Edit: full feeling has now returned. I even managed to eat lunch. 😁

[–] SpinMeAround 6 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Smoked salted butter on toast this morning and now my mouth feels like I've used it to put a fire out. Interesting.

I really fucking hate my garbage eyesight sometimes. And I've thought about laser surgery problem is they can't guarantee glasses free from that point onwards and you could well be wearing them again in a few years (and I've known a couple of people where his has happened to).

The move to the new computer is nearly complete. 👍Just installed tor 😎 and if I remember years ago I wrote a bit of code to personalise it so I'll have to grab that too.

Getting really sick of people setting of fireworks at random times most nights

I have no natural light in the bathroom. What are some plants I can get for it?

For reference:

[–] MeanElevator 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Not sure there are any plants that emit natural light.

[–] bull 12 points 10 months ago (1 children)

How about sunflowers? Checkmate. Boom.

[–] Bottom_racer 8 points 10 months ago

The rona cannot break that logic.

Just went to the local RSL bistro for lunch with my MIL and the Minipeelers. Jeez it's a bit pricey for a members club.. or maybe I'm out of touch, I haven't been there for a while. A lemonade was $4.20 and most mains were around $35, for meals that were slightly larger than a kids/seniors meal and just average, nothing to write home about. Last time I went to an RSL it was the one at Ocean Grove, and the meals were on the pricey side but absolutely outstanding and totally worth it, awesomely good food. The Minis were happy though because Elder got a Tassie Devil plushie from the claw machine and he got Miniest a Scooby Doo (those machines are shit and rigged, how TF does he do it‽) I figure regional/coastal town RSL experiences are different from urban ones?

[–] wscholermann 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

How does a pensioner afford a 40 dollar meal? I'm assuming your figures were member prices.

[–] PeelerSheila 4 points 10 months ago

Members prices. The seniors meal however is $16, with a soup or sweet for an extra $2, from a set menu. They seem to be what counts as pretty reasonable value these days.

Finally finished my Harry Potter marathon, and I gotta state for the five millionth time I really really REALLY hate the romance it's just so abrupt (ok it's less abrupt in the books) and horrible. I mean even in the books I wasn't happy. I think the ending movie/book wise was a case of someone forgetting sometimes letting your readers/watchers make their own conclusions on characters futures is better.

Baby won’t sleep so I’m sitting here reading reviews for my dream car. No knock on the new Kia; In sports mode it makes a surprisingly good case for itself, but it’s an auto suv. It ain’t gonna set the world on fire. They call the new model “a bit more emotionless” and the manufacturer says it’s “grown up”. God I hope they fix that in the next 7 or so years cause I am so so excited to have one parked in my carport!

[–] wscholermann 4 points 10 months ago (7 children)

So um when is summer going to start?

[–] underwatermagpies 8 points 10 months ago

I guess it's nice that nothing's on fire. But something in between would be good. We're really not great at moderation in this country

[–] MeanElevator 5 points 10 months ago

Late Jan and will carry on until April

[–] PeelerSheila 4 points 10 months ago

Usually the first week of term 1
