I just got fired.... "Not a good fit". Fuck.

Edit: I got hired as client services manager, but it was a bait and switch. What they really wanted was a branch manager. Which is a higher paying role.

I didn't say anything about it though.

Ah who knows. I've done another 30 or so applications this morning. Only concern is that a lot of places won't be hiring until end of Jan. Guess we'll see.

[–] underwatermagpies 9 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Oh fuck, sorry.

Any org heartless enough to do that first thing on 2nd Jan is probably not somewhere you want to be, not that that helps right now.

[–] Gibsonisafluffybutt 7 points 10 months ago

They said they were going to do it before the break, but they thought they'd wait till after?! How does that make sense???

[–] dumblederp 8 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

I've seen you bounce back from shit jobs a number of times. I've even considered messaging you about how you seem to land jobs pretty easily from an outside perspective. For whatever reason you're 'not a good fit' better to be out of there. They might have already had someone in mind and were stringing you along to cover.

[–] Gibsonisafluffybutt 9 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Thanks mate. I was hired as client services, but there was a bait and switch. What they really wanted was a branch manager which they didn't mention at all until I signed the contract.

I've always gotten positive feedback, and I've never once been fired. Literally ever.

I just hope I can get something soon and not have to wait till the end of January.

Feel free to message me if you want any advice for the applications process.

[–] SituationCake 7 points 10 months ago

What a horrid start to the year! Ah well, some things are not meant to be. Next place will be better.

[–] melbaboutown 6 points 10 months ago

How shit. Fingers crossed you land something else higher paying (and the old company struggles)

[–] mysticgreg 5 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Oh no, sorry to hear it :( Is this the place you interviewed at a few weeks back that were headhunting you?

I followed the storm all the way back from Ballarat to Melbourne this afternoon and survived the M8/M1 in an unfamiliar car with worn tyres and a chatty passenger, AMA.

In unrelated news, some of you may remember the saga of soxcat and the uphill battle to get vets to believe she had ovarian remnant syndrome, not separation anxiety or a UTI or Munchausen's by proxy on my behalf. Got in touch with her human today and guess what. They found solid proof and the original vets that desexed her removed it in an open surgery for free. It was there. It took 3 surgeons but they got it out. She is now recovered and no longer suffering and hormonal.

I am mostly very happy and relieved for sox and her human, but also, can I just gloat for a second about HOW VINDICATED I FEEL.

Loving this thunder!

Even more loving that the cat I'm looking after seems to have zero fear of thunder or lightning. Just chill AF.

Cat Tax...

I broke up with my partner. Honestly for the best and I'm in a great mood. I somehow seem to find people with the lowest empathy and EQ levels possible whereas I'm very high on both and end up being their 'support' but if I'm not doing OK I'm a shit person.

Working on doing more exercise. Set up a home gym and trying to lose my covid weight. In a great mood and kinda love storms so it's a win/win!

[–] PeelerSheila 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

At least you're in a positive frame of mind and moving forward in your life. Sometimes it's a relief to end a relationship that wasn't really doing it for you or was a replay of past mistakes.

Oh yay. Woke from a sleep to find my fever has swung the other way. Got up to use the toilet and nearly shivered myself apart. Skin feels warm but heater has been activated. Yay virus!

Also Melbourne has this crazy habit of having epic storms when I go on holidays when it knows I love them. This has been happening for like 15 years. I feel like it's personal.

Nice big bang very close to Thornbury. Rain is thickening. Lots of lightning. Sirens on St Georges road. Aaaand another one - too close for comfort. Triple banger thunderclap following.

Hugs to all the dogs and cats who had only just recovered from the last round of angry sky noises. This is some persistent thunder.

Well, I was back at work today. Managed to spend the whole day tinkering with long overdue sysAdmin tasks and not dealing with clients (who don't know i am back yet). Was nice. Think I need to spend more time tinkering with linux now it's not a day-to-day requirement of my actual job...

My zucchini plant is reaching to the sky in worship of the rain, having curled all its leaves into funnels to catch as much as possible.

To whom it may concern
I would like to file a complaint about your institution's neglect. The sky water, light flashes, and acoustic effects are being unfairly allocated. Please ensure even distribution of resources across your patrons.
Yours sincerely,
Bacon

[–] Baku 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I was wondering why I feel so hot and I now have my answer. 100% humidity

Now, when I say I can deal with close to 50 and be fine, the only way thats possible is at 0% humidity. if it's 100% then I tap out by 20

Had a few brownouts over the past hour, so we're charging everything that needs to be and put fresh batteries in torches that need it. Just in case!

I'm so annoyed. Called up a friend last night to meet and he said sure let's meet for dinner and that he'll ask others if they're keen to join. 2 hours later I call him, no response. I drop him a message, no response. He's busy playing Dota 2 apparently.

I Ieft him another message this morning saying that if he's not keen or busy then he should've atleast let me know so I don't sit around waiting for him.

Worst part is he was a best friend of mine till I moved countries and we sort of lost touch. Still a very good friend of mine though. Very odd behaviour, he's never done this before and this has happened twice now in the last couple weeks. Idk if it's me or something's up with him. I'll probably give it one last shot, give him a call later tonight or tomorrow if he still doesn't respond to my text. I'm returning to Melbourne this Saturday so whatever.

Melbcat was so brave for the first round of thunder. I'd just pat her and she would settle, staying next to me. The next round was far too loud and close though. Poor thing couldn't take it anymore and hid.

Grass has been mowed. I really should have done it earlier in the day, it got a bit warm out there.

The gifted battery powered lawnmower is way upmarket compared to my cheap electric one. It's probably overkill for my tiny patch of grass, but not having to dance around a cord and constantly plug it back in when I pull the cord wrong was definitely nice. It is also bigger and heavier, so I'm going to have to rearrange the shed to fit it in. Then I need to work out the best strategy to get rid of the old one quickly. I anticipate many "is this available"s in my future. But occasionally I'm surprised by a nice simple sale, so fingers crossed.

It's not that hard. Put the small trolleys on one side and the big trolleys on the other. Follow that procedure and you won't get called a moron when I try to retrieve my buck.

Hey guys. It's still thundering here in Melton. It's been going for 3 1/2 hours now.

Just snuck into Melbourne airport before that hit. Was the bumpiest approach and landing I've had commercially since sometime in the 90s. My kids were white knuckled as we came in. It didn't help that some people decided to put themselves into the brace position just near us. As an ex commercial pilot (small props) it was fine for me. Talking it through with the kids was a challenge though.
